I went to training at the Corporate Office of The Murphy Group for 3 weeks to learn about the rules and processes for interviewing and placing candidates in permanent jobs. We had to pass a License Test with The Illinois Department of Labor and I also chose to earn my certification CPC in 1989. I placed many people with Murphy and after 4 1/2 years I chose to go to work as an Independent renting a "Desk" within an Employment Agency and then becoming licensed as an agency owner.
On May 1st, 1994, Career Sources Unlimited, Inc. was born! We have enjoyed 24 years of supporting some of the most dynamic and growing companies across the nation adding great talent and being part of someone else's story. Delivering what candidates and companies both want, A Great Fit!
There is not anyone that I have ever met, and believe me, (I have met a lot of people) that told me they wanted to go to work where they were unhappy! We spend 40 plus hours at work plus commuting time, et cetra and we all want to enjoy our day! We all want to feel empowered, with the ability to be creative and add value to our product or service while being offered stability, respect and opportunity to continue to contribute and grow.
In 1995 the State of Illinois was lobbied to deregulate where the Department of Labor would no longer license recruiters and be a watch dog over Employment Agencies and their business practices. I fought the deregulation as I knew that would mean the candidates could be misled. Although I wrote every Congress person in the State the deregulation went through. Career Sources Unlimited, Inc. still operates to this day and will remain compliant with the Labor Laws and will always respect the privacy and wishes of both of our customers', the Candidate and the Company. Acting with integrity and honor are pillars of our organizational philosophy and will continue to guide our operations.
I feel that the key to interviewing and hiring is to be yourself and make your choices for the right reasons. Follow your gut, it usually "feels" right if it is meant to be. That cultural fit for both the candidate and the company will ensure success for both parties which inspires loyalty and longevity. In 1988 I went on a two week maternity leave to give birth to our youngest and the day after I got home from the hospital I saw my job was in the paper. The VP I worked for had said I was a "cornerstone of the company" and to not be concerned about taking time off. Unfortunately, before the Pregnancy Act of 1989 Employers could discriminate against pregnant mothers and did not have to hold your job open. They could cut your pay, demote you, as long as they gave you a job. After 7 years of Loyalty I chose to look for a new Corporate Buyer role.
I answered an ad and wound up at an Employment Agency, and when I stood up to leave my recruiter came to bring me to her desk right away and started telling me I would be a great recruiter. After an interview with another company, (who did not hire me since I did not have a degree) and wonderful support from my husband I became a recruiter. A true passion was born.
